In Matthew 12:33-37, we learn how one can identify a tree by its fruit. In the same way, you can tell what's in the heart of a person by their fruit. The fruit Jesus is speaking about is the words we speak. Because out of the abundance of the heart - the mouth speaks. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are instant whereas the Fruit of the Spirit are developed overtime. Your heart is like a bag and what you feed it or fill it with will come out. We are beings that have the ability to create. We can speak life or death over something as our words are powerful and have the ability to reproduce/create. The Bible says life & death is in the power of the tongue. Our words are powerful. You can bring sickness, calamity, disease, etc on yourself just by what you say. We have to be careful of what we feed into our bag(heart). The Bible says the window to our heart is our eyes. So we have to be aware of what we see all the time. Sin always starts as a seed and then it starts to grow. What we put in to our bag will start to grow. We will be judged for idle words we have spoken. There will be 2 judgements. The first being the Bema where all those who are born again will stand before God and give an account of what they did with the gift that was given to them. The gifts are given to be used for the Kingdom and so it has to be connected to the kingdom. We cannot prostitute the gifts which means using it for our own gain and greed. The other is the White Throne Judgement where everyone will be present. In Mark 4:24, Jesus speaks about what you hear. This is important as you feed your bag with what you hear too.
